Republican Reps. Brian Babin of Texas and Paul Gosar of Arizona both characterized the Georgia Senate runoff races as pivotal for the future of the United States on Wednesday, calling them “absolutely critical” and the difference between “freedom, liberty…or a communist state.”
Appearing together on Newsmax TV’s “Stinchfield,” Babin and Gosar stressed and emphasized the necessity for incumbent Republican Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue to prevail over Democratic opponents Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff.
“The Georgia Senate runoff races are the battle for America’s future,” said Babin, 72, a three-term Republican who represents Texas’ 36th Congressional District in the southeast portion of the state stretching from the Houston suburbs to the Louisiana border. “It is absolutely critical that Republicans maintain the majority in the U.S. Senate, and Georgia voters have absolutely got to get to the polls – and save this country.
“It’s not just Georgia. It is America on the line.”
Nobody received more than 50% of the vote in either Senate contest in November, forcing a runoff between the top two vote-getters.
While Perdue received only a few thousand votes shy of the 50% threshold, Warnock led Loeffler 33% to 26%. However, Loeffler and fellow Republican Doug Collins, plus four other Republicans in a race with 20 candidates, received a combined 49.3% of the vote compared to about 48.4% for Warnock and the next seven Democrats.
Republicans already have 50 Senate seats confirmed for the next Congress, but a Democratic sweep in Georgia would deadlock the chamber and allow the vice president, Kamala Harris, in a Joe Biden administration, to break any ties.
“This hinges on the future: freedom, liberty, or be dependent on the federal government in a communist state, that socialism is master, where wealth is redistributed,” said Gosar, 62, who in November won a fifth term to represent Arizona’s 4th Congressional District from the Phoenix suburbs to the Nevada border.
